BPI chief named MAP Management Man of the Year

Bank of the Philippine Islands president and CEO Aurelio R. Montinola was named the MAP Management Man of the Year for 2012.

The Management Association of the Philippines bestows the award to individuals in the business community or the government who have attained unquestioned distinction in the practice of management and have contributed to the country’s progress.

The distinction of “MAP Management Man of the Year” has only been conferred 36 times in the 45-year history of the award.

The criteria for the award include integrity, leadership and management qualities; contribution to nation building and values formation; effective stewardship within the confines of the highest standard of business and management practice.

The MAP cited Montinola for his outstanding stewardship of BPI as a highly successful organization, socially responsible corporate citizen and a fiduciary firm known for good governance; contributions in strengthening Philippine professional management practices by exemplifying strong culture of leadership, innovation and customer-centricity in the banking sector; involvement in assisting overseas Filipino workers improve the management of their earnings through educational programs in saving, entrepreneurship and financial planning; involvement in micro-enterprise development through the provision of banking services designed specifically for small businesses and the least privileged segments of the Philippine economic pyramid; and active role in expanding BPI financing for energy-efficiency and renewable-energy projects, thereby significantly contributing to national development.
