Camaro’s drive at 45

/ 03:33 AM July 11, 2012

The Chevy Camaro, possibly this generation’s most iconic Hollywood American muscle car, is celebrating its 45th year in the auto world.

The Chevy Camaro was actually introduced in September 1966 as a 1967 model, thus making 2012 as its official 45th year.

The introduction of the all-new Camaro closed the gap in hitting the 5-million mark, making the Camaro’s 45th anniversary milestone more significant.

The Camaro is an instantly recognizable car to anybody born during and after the Baby Boom generation. Thanks largely to the first Transformers movie and its sequels, the yellow-and-black-striped “Bumblebee” Camaro attracts onlookers from kids to old folks, car lovers or not.

The first-generation Camaro model years ran from 1967 to 1969. Some 900 units of the first-generation Camaros were assembled in the country back in 1967 by the now defunct Yutivo company.

Ever since GM unveiled its new Camaro concept car back in 2006 at the Detroit Auto Show, the anticipation for the road-going version has been very strong. The US GM market had pre-sold some 14,000 units at a time when the US auto industry was in a crisis.

The new-generation Camaro was introduced in the country last year at the Manila International Auto Show by The Covenant Car Company Inc. (TCCCI), the exclusive importer and distributor of Chevrolet vehicles and parts in the Philippines, as part of its extensive vehicle lineup. With styling queues reminiscent of the original Camaro, this retro-inspired model sports a leaner and more powerful muscle car engine options. The Camaro 2LT model comes with a 3.6-liter V6 engine with Spark Ignition Direct Injection (SIDI) technology, matted to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. The more muscular 2SS model comes with a larger 6.2-liter V8 motor with Sequential Fuel Injection (SFI), paired either to a 6-speed automatic gearbox or a 6-speed manual transmission.

As an official import unit, Camaro owners can have worry-free driving thanks to its five-year warranty program and 24/7 Roadside Assistance, which come standard with every Chevy vehicle bought from TCCCI dealership.
