MANILA, Philippines—The Department of Tourism (DoT) has identified the 78 eco-tourism sites that has been declared as off-limits to mining under President Aquino’s newly released executive order.

The list of “tourism development areas” (TDAs) was based on the department’s National Tourism Development Plan, which has been submitted to President Aquino.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources was furnished a copy of the list, according to Evelyn Macayayong, DoT marketing communication officer.

“As you can see, some are as big as regions, provinces or as detailed as coastal areas, lakes or islands,” noted Macayayong. “The forthcoming IRR should be able to provide clear-cut criteria in identifying the specific sites or else it’s the entire country that’s mining-free.”

Ban mining permanently in the Philippines. This country belongs to us, Filipinos. You have no right to give away and exhaust its mineral resources, which belong to the Filipino people.

Ipagbawal yan.

They should have included more areas. The bishops are against it because of their interest in mining and, well, against anything that PNoy do, even breathing sleeping talking walking or being a president.

  • surigao_miners

dahil sa EO na yan at hindi kasama ang Surigao del Sur, lalo na sa Carrascal Cantilan Madrid Carmen Lanuza area na gustong minahin ng mga GAHAMAN na mga PIMENTEL a.k.a AMPATUAN ng Surigao del Sur maraming patayan ang mangyayari sa lugar na ito..( itong mga PIMENTEL na ito ay not related to the senators. ).

  • surigao_miners

The bishops didnt wait for the EO’s copy before protesting. This EO have some very good points in it. Wheres the logic in complaining beforehand?
