ICTSI invests $2.5M in Baltic Container Terminal

International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) continues to improve and modernize its operations around the world as it seeks to strengthen its overseas presence.

In a statement Friday, the Manila-based port operator said it had installed a new container scanner worth $2.5 million at the Baltic Container Terminal (BCT).

“The investment is expected to increase security and safety of the port, reduce service time and advance the terminal’s overall performance,” the company said. The new piece of equipment was installed in cooperation with the Pomeranian Customs Office, ICTSI said.

The BCT operates the container terminal in Gdynia, Pomerania, Poland. BCT won its 20-year concession contract for the facility in 2003.

The Port of Gdynia is one of the largest passenger and cargo terminals in the Northern Europe’s Baltic Sea.

“BCT and the Port of Gdynia have been pioneers in the integration of modern port solutions, and this investment by the Customs Office is a continuation of this commitment,” BCT president Krzystof Szymborski said.

“Thanks to the modern scanner, Gdynia cements its position as among the most modern, safest and efficient terminals in this part of the world,” he said.

The dual-energy Rapiscan G-60 scanner now housed at the BCT shows the content of containers, and can distinguish organic substances from others.  Scanning of one container takes only six to eight minutes, significantly hastening customs clearance time at the terminal.

Headquartered in Manila, ICTSI is one of the world’s leading port management companies, operating 22 marine terminals and port projects in 17 countries.
