Ayala-led Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc. (IMI) recently inaugurated a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for European motorcycle giant KTM in its complex in Laguna Technopark.

As such, domestic production of KTM motorcycles is now in full swing, IMI disclosed to the Philippine Stock Exchange yesterday.

At the start, the plant will employ about 50 people—consisting of 40 workers and 10 engineers and technicians—but the number will triple to 150 at full capacity.

The manufacturing facility for KTM Asia Motorcycle Manufacturing Inc. (KAMMI) was inaugurated on June 6.

“We are rooted in nation-building and we are here for the long haul,” Arthur Tan, group president and chief executive officer of AC Industrials who is concurrently vice chair of IMI, said during the factory opening.

“Truly, the Philippines can be a hub not only in Asean (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) but also for the world, that we can provide competitively, a complete product designed, built and manufactured here in the Philippines and be competitive on a global basis,” Tan said at the press conference held during the inauguration.

“We are further expanding our capabilities as part of our thrust of fostering synergies with Ayala companies. Combining the competencies of our manufacturing and distribution arms allows us to scale our presence in this space, taking advantage of evolving movements in technology, automation and industrial technology,” Tan added.

IMI is the core manufacturing business of AC Industrials that houses Ayala group’s portfolio of investments in industrial technologies, as well as the conduit for the group to tap different markets and technologies globally.
