Camella’s early Christmas treat for Cebuanos
CAMELLA has been deeply entrenched in the development of Mactan in the last two decades.
Tis’ the season of giving once more, as the month of merrymaking looms near.
But while Christmas is still a few months away, it came much earlier for the City of Cebu.
The Queen City of the South, known for its famed Cebuano hospitality and faith, received its early Christmas gift from one of the country’s top developers.
Vista Land and Lifescapes’ Camella Homes, has completed last July a P20-million comprehensive drainage system project in Mactan, Cebu.
The project, which is expected to be turned over before Christmas, is expected to allow for a more effective management of the island’s water outflow and alleviate flooding woes of the city, according to Myra Lynn Gilig, general manager of Camella Cebu for North properties.
“This will really benefit the area where we will have the drainage system. Unnecessary floodings will be avoided; and the streets will be much cleaner, among others,” Gilig said in an interview with the Inquirer.
The project, in particular, will benefit residents from Lapu-Lapu’s neighboring barangays, particularly Pajac, Maribago, Mactan, Basak, Cagodoy, Bankal and Buaya as well as over 1,000 residents in various Camella projects in the area.
“It’s ready for turnover to the city. We’re testing it but we will (turn it over) once we get a go signal from the technical group. We just wanted to make sure that the project will run smoothly,” Gilig added.
P20-M drainage project
The P20-million drainage system project, which was undertaken with the assistance of Camella contractors and in close coordination with the local officials to ensure that government regulations are strictly adhered to, involved the installation of 4.5 kilometers of new pipes along the Pajac-Maribago Road and the General Aviation Road leading to the Mactan Circumferential Road.
The said project is likewise considered as a testament to the continued and strengthened partnership that Camella Homes had built with Cebu City and its people almost after 20 years of putting up its first property in the region.
“Indeed, Camella has been deeply entrenched in the development of Mactan in the last two decades—taking part in creating jobs, building homes and celebrating the abundance of blessings through the local festivals,” Gilig explained.
“This is truly a meaningful undertaking that the people of Cebu will vastly benefit from. The devastation that flooding brings cannot be underestimated. The rising waters not only destroy properties but bring diseases like malaria and dengue in its wake. We are confident that the dangers from these hazards can be eased with the completion of the drainage improvement project,” she further noted.
