Many design stories may revel in the colorful and bright, while others celebrate subtlety, comfort and an elevated level of thoughtfulness. Contemporary design does not busy itself with purely form or comfort, but through time and formation, creates a continuous and harmonious narrative.

For over 40 years, Dutch furniture brand Montis takes the strength of its own story that is a solid, with a belief that comfort goes hand in hand with beautiful design, inspired by the needs of modern life. At its heart, aesthetics and comfort are ideal partners in the luxury of good and true design. Befitting for modern life, there is an air of the classic as well as swell of the contemporary and innovative that comes alive with each unique piece.

With combining well-versed stories of form and comfort, Montis’ popular Axel XL, designed by Gijs Papavoine, is generous in its seating and modular thought, finished with much care and precision. Elegant yet slightly casual that provides comfort and consideration with its expansive and flexible construction. “Domino,” a smart linear modular sofa designed by Dick Spierenburg, takes on different seating configurations to suit any interior.  For more attentive moments, the “Zoom In” sofa, designed by Arian Brekveld, is shaped from artisanal techniques and thought, while the “Dimsum” rocking chair, designed by Simon

FEATURED STORIES

With a tradition of artisanship, one of the most exciting design stories to come out of Croatia is the young and noted furniture line, Prostoria. With a philosophy of uncovering the distinct story of the room, each piece is the melting pot of European rationality with Mediterranean sensuality, that enrich our everyday interaction. Considering aesthetics as a basic human need, Prostoria creates each product with functionality, as well as a nod to the sum of its knowledge, experience, affection and enthusiasm built into it.

“Up-lift” armchair, created by Redesign, brings a surprising innovation to ordinary, functional sofas, raising up the rounded backrest that automatically and easily transforms into a bed, in wonderful colors and shades. Another creation that unifies our seating and sleeping functions in a thoughtful and effortless way is the Red Dot Design Award 2012 winner, “Revolve” multifunctional sofa. Designed by Numen/For Use, the “Revolve” sofa allows an easy change and transition from a setting to share stories to a place where we rest and dream our future. Completely understated yet discreetly sophisticated in thought and form, that does not call unwanted attention to itself. Meanwhile, “Strain” armchairs, another Interior Innovation and Red Dot Design Award 2015 winner created by Simon Morasi Pipercic, is inspired by streamlined modern thought that does not take up entire rooms and spaces, resembling something familiar with a slight nod to the mod, yet carrying itself distinctively in an identifiable voice.

Capturing the enduring and evolving thought of design is a challenge for many furniture brands, but for Montis and Prostoria there is an integrity, steady consistency and surprising excitement that make their distinctive and unique stories, worthwhile to share and own.
