GLOBAL financial services group Manulife has rolled out a pioneering program that offers insurance premium discounts to Filipino customers who opt to maintain a more active lifestyle.

Under this innovative program ManulifeMOVE, the more physical activities the clients maintain on a daily basis – as monitored by wearable fitness trackers synched with the program’s app, the more discounts they can get for the next year of their eligible policy.

“We’re asking Filipinos to move,” Manulife Philippines president Ryan Charland said in a press briefing on Wednesday, noting that this program represented a “paradigm shift” in how people think about insurance.

Tracking fitness goals under this program is as simple as counting the steps or movements made when people walk, run or engage in other physical activities.

A ManulifeMOVE member can earn premium discounts proportional to their track record. For instance, a 5 percent premium discount for the next year of eligible policy will be given to a member who can maintain an average of 5,000 steps each year. A 7 percent premium discount will be offered to members who are able to maintain an average of 7,000 daily steps while a bigger 10 percent discount will be given to those who can maintain 10,000 steps per day.

“We want to show them (customers) that they are the heart of our business, and that we innovate in response to their needs,” Charland said.

To become a ManulifeMOVE member, one needs to buy an eligible plan. The client must be at least 18 years old and must be the person insured and the policy owner of the eligible plans.

The eligible plans are Manulife Health Choice; Manulife Adam, Manulife Eve, Manulife Seasons with Enhanced Critical Illness Rider or Hospitalization. From now until March 31, 2016, customers who buy these products, make an initial premium payment of P5,000 and join ManulifeMOVE can claim a Misfit Shine fitness tracking device. Those who are unable to meet the initial payment requirement can still avail of a 25 percent discount on their purchase of either Misfit Shine or Fitbit Flex.

The program is also open to customers of the Manulife China Bank Life Assurance Corp. (MCBL) who buy Health Choice, as well as MCBL Enrich and MCBL Invest with critical illness and hospital income benefit riders.

The launch of this program is supported by an integrated marketing campaign featuring Filipino actors and Manulife Philippines brand ambassadors Sarah Geronimo and Richard Yap. To encourage consumers to move more, Manulife will also launch a series of dance tutorial videos with G-Force dancing to the ManulifeMOVE Anthem composed by award-winning composer Thyro Alfaro and performed by recording artist James Reid, also one of the most popular young actors.
