Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. has partnered with US-based Akamai, a global content delivery network company, in a move seen to improve Internet and security services for users.

“Today, digital content—whether it’s video, other shareable visuals, or even other online applications—has proven to be an indispensable tool for companies to reach their customers,” Jovy Hernandez, PLDT first vice president and head of PLDT Alpha Enterprise, said in the statement.

“Our alliance with Akamai puts us in the perfect position to support our enterprise clients as they leverage on digital technology to create more meaningful connections with their own customers, by enabling them to optimize web and mobile user experiences,” he added.

“Furthermore, this strategic alliance will enable us to deliver and manage content delivery from anywhere in the world, as we leverage on Akamai’s reach and scale with more than 200,000 servers globally—still with the most number of servers versus other CDNs to date,” he said.

Akamai is distributed in over 110 countries. The company claims to deliver secure, high-performing web experiences on any device, from any location, and delivers over two trillion Internet transactions daily.

“With an increasing number of users going online to shop, complete banking transactions, connect via social networks and access content, companies need to be able to provide fast, reliable and secure experiences to their customers across devices,” Graeme Beardsell, Akamai’s Managing Director, Markets, Asia Pacific and Japan, said in the same statement.

“PLDT is the leading telecommunications service provider in the Philippines, and with this strategic partnership, we are excited to share their commitment to help businesses grow and drive their brand forward in this increasingly connected world,” Beardsell said.
