With summer just around the corner, this month is the right time to spruce up your living space with casual and comfy furniture to enjoy long summer afternoons. These kinds of stylish outdoor furniture could be found in the new concept store Veranda by W/17 at the fourth floor of the Mega Fashion Hall at SM Megamall.

In their furniture-buying trips looking for new discoveries, Andy Vasquez Prada and Kaye Tinga, the team behind W/17, started thinking of a new direction for furnishing homes. With the increasingly stressful times, the need for a getaway has become more urgent—whether it’s a beach house, a mountain retreat, or even just your own living room.

Their search for bringing the tranquility of the outdoors into your interior space brought them to Sika-Design. A Danish company that has been making outdoor furniture since 1950, Sika-Design has created handmade furniture with comfort, quality and sustainability as its main requirements. Sika-Design wicker furniture has been handed down through generations, and boasts of designs by top European designers such as Arne Jacobsen—renowned for his Egg chair—Nanna Ditzel and Franco Albini.

FEATURED STORIES

The story of the rattan manufacturing company Sika-Design dates back three generations to 1942, when Ankjær Andreasen founded Sika Møbler. In the beginning Ankjær home-produced wicker baskets and lampshades and small pieces of rattan furniture, but the business quickly grew and in 1951 he established a cane and rattan manufacturing company on Funen. The manufacturing continued on Danish ground until 1989 when it was no longer possible to import the materials. Sika Møbler has since 1972 established factories in Asia.

The furniture by Sika-Design is still being handmade with the same tradition for craftsmanship, comfort and quality that has characterized the company for the past 70 years. Veranda by W/17 is the exclusive distributor of Sika-Design in the Philippines. Other accent pieces for outdoor spaces are sold here as well.

Veranda by W/17 and W/17 are great shops carrying accent pieces that partners and style pioneers Andy and Kaye source from all over the world. They are passionate about home furnishings, fabrics and decorative accents that could create a stylishly unique home. Since opening its doors in 2011, W/17 has kept to its chief principle of bringing tasteful and unique artisanal offerings to its customers.
