MWSS embarks on legacy program

/ 01:17 AM November 22, 2014

Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) is undertaking a Water Security Legacy Plan (WSLP), a massive, long-term program that aims to ensure adequate, reliable, affordable and sustainable supply of water and sewerage services in Metro Manila today and in the future.

Under the multistage, multi-pronged program, MWSS is implementing multibillion-peso water infrastructure projects as it improves regulatory efficiency and ensures deeper stakeholder engagement.

The plan also seeks to transform MWSS into a more accountable, dependable and transparent organization.

MWSS Administrator Gerardo Esquivel said the agency plans to leave seven legacies through the WSLP: Water resources and infrastructure development, management and protection; water distribution efficiency; sewerage and sanitation compliance; water rates review and rationalization; organization excellence; partnership development, and communications and knowledge management.

“Through these efforts, we will be able to help ensure a more holistic, long-term and sustainable approach to water supply to Metro Manila and the provinces nearby,” Esquivel said.

The flagship undertaking of the WSLP is the New Centennial Water Source Project (NCWSP), an integrated dam system that intends to supply 2,400 million liters per day of raw water to Metro Manila.
