The local retail scene has been abuzz lately with the entry of the new Century City Mall on Kalayaan Avenue, Makati. This stylish boutique mall offers a sophisticated shopping environment that includes a good selection of dining and entertainment attractions.

CENTURY City Mall on Kalayaan Avenue
Opened earlier this year by Century Properties Group Inc., the five-story retail development serves the immediate Century City community of residences and, soon, its medical offices and office towers. The mall’s one-kilometer radius also covers exclusive gated villages, office buildings and hotels.
Balanced selection
With 17,000 square meters of leasable space for about 100 tenants, Century City was designed to have a balanced selection of locators. Coates said the management ensured that the stores would complement each other and at the same time be diverse enough to cater to the needs of their target consumers.
Essentials for the home and office, as well as hardware needs are available at True Value, Howards Storage World and The Office Warehouse. Modern lifestyle stores for your interior furnishings are available at Blue Carreon Home, Il Mercante Di Venezia and Dimensione. Premium appliance brand Dyson, famous for its bladeless fans and high-power vacuum cleaners, also has a showroom on the mall’s third level.
My favorite shop is Blue Carreon Home, which carries a curated selection of home accessories, furniture, art, rare books and scents sourced aboard. Designer and international lifestyle and fashion journalist Blue Carreon chooses every item in his shop and styles the collection beautifully.
CENTURY City Mall Premiere Cinema
Health, wellness and beauty merchandise can be readily accessed at Healthy Options and Watsons, while grocery shopping will always be a breeze with the well-laid-out Rustans Supermarket, which is open as early as 9 a.m. at the mall’s lower ground level. Flowers by Rosabella offers blooms and natural decorative items daily on the same floor.
Entertainment attractions
Century City Mall proves that even a boutique mall can deliver entertainment attractions.
Its four digital projection cinemas have been frequented by moviegoers since its opening. One of these is the Premier Cinema, which has fully power-adjustable Italian leather seats and Dolby Atmos 7.1 surround sound system. A ticket to the Premier Cinema also entitles you to free refillable popcorn and drinks from Taters.
Coates said the fourth-level al fresco area also features a light, music and fountain show daily every 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.—a favorite attraction among kids. The fountain’s design team is the same creator of the popular fountains of the Sands Macau Hotel, The Landmark in Hong Kong and the Aquafantasia at Centenary Garden in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong.
In the evenings, 12 Monkeys Music Hall and Pub open to live music enthusiasts. Musicians Chito Miranda and Champ Liu Pio, along with some of the biggest names in the bar and restaurant scene, are behind this new bar-musical performance venue which features top Filipino artists from different genres.
The Century City Mall Event Center at the topmost level of the mall also offers a venue for meetings, receptions and celebrations, providing a nice vista of the Makati skyline.
