Malaysian trade mission arrives

MANILA, Philippines—A Malaysian business mission is in town until Thursday to explore possible ventures in the country.

The Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) headed by Leong Soke Ching and Adrian Yeo Eng Hui will represent 10 Malaysian businesses in the logistics, industry, automotive and medical fields.

“The Philippine embassy is elated that more and more Malaysian companies are looking at the Philippines as a preferred place to invest and do business,” Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia Eduardo Malaya said in a statement on Sunday.

The embassy said FMM is Malaysia’s premier economic organization covering over 2,500 manufacturing and industrial service companies.

The delegation will visit the Light Industry and Science Park in Laguna. It will also meet with Trade Undersecretary Ponciano Manalo and officials of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Malaysia is the Philippines’ ninth-largest trading partner, with total trade amounting to $364 million. From January to September last year, Malaysia invested $31.31 million in the country.—Christine O. Avendaño
